An Odia playback singer was detained on suspicion of maintaining a sexual connection with a lady under false pretenses of marriage.

Debesh Pati was detained by the Bhubaneswar Police in relation to a case that was filed after a local court’s directives a few months ago.

A complaint has been filed against the singer under a number of IPC provisions, including 376(2)(n) and the IT Act, per the directives of a local court. He was taken into custody on Thursday night and brought before the judge, according to Inspector In-Charge Satyaranjan Pradhan of the Nayapalli police station.

The lady said in her FIR that she first spoke with the accused almost two years ago. Eventually, Pati fulfilled her vow of marriage by establishing a sexual connection.

The lady claimed that in addition to using drugs to end her pregnancy, Pati had also taken more than Rs 5 lakh under false pretenses.

According to the complaint, Pati threatened to post their private images and films online when the complainant persisted on getting married.
