A Minimum Income Bill for Rajasthan Has Been Introduced With Assembly Elections in Mind by Mayawati

BSP leader Mayawati criticized the Ashok Gehlot administration in Rajasthan on Sunday, claiming that the minimum guaranteed income law it enacted was done so to further its “political interest” before the assembly elections.

The Rajasthan Assembly on Friday approved a measure that would guarantee a basic income to all adult residents as part of the state’s welfare program.

“The Gehlot government kept sleeping like ‘Kumbhakarna’ throughout its tenure and remained embroiled in internal political upheavals, otherwise many works related to public welfare, poverty, unemployment, and backwardness could have been started by the government much earlier in the public interest,” she claimed.

The Congress administration in Rajasthan announced a minimum guarantee income program before to the assembly elections, however this was more of a political choice than it was in the public interest. The impoverished find it challenging to get rapid help as a result. Is it fair to spend significant amounts of public funds only on publicity? said the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh in a Hindi tweet.

Some recipients would reportedly be given a minimum wage job guarantee for at least 125 days per fiscal year, under the Bill.

Other beneficiaries, including elderly citizens, people with disabilities, widows, and single women, would have pension rights under the Bill. From FY 2024–2025, the pension that is due will grow at a rate of 15% each year.
