Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh tense over Islamic Cleric’s ‘Jail Bharo’ Andolan, Leader Arrested

On Friday, protests against President Minister Yogi Adityanath were staged in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, by supporters of an Islamic cleric and Ittehad-e-Millat Council president Tauqeer Raza Khan.

The Uttar Pradesh police have taken the preacher into custody, and the situation is being watched. Protesters are still congregating in the streets and chanting anti-chief minister chants, prompting the deployment of heavy security.

In response to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s remarks in the Assembly on Thursday that Muslims should voluntarily renounce their claim to the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi and the Shahi Idgah mosque in Mathura, Raza Khan said on Thursday that he would turn himself in for arrest.
