More bus stations and service categories will be introduced by UPSRTC

LUCKNOW: On Tuesday, Dayashankar Singh, the transport minister for Uttar Pradesh, said that in addition to adding additional stations to bus routes, the fleet of buses will also be categorized to provide a range of services to regular visitors to the state.

Singh directed the addition of bus stops at intervals of no more than 3 km in rural regions and up to 5 km in metropolitan areas. Making new fare stops does not incur any costs. “Passengers turn to alternative modes of transportation due to a lack of stops in accordance with demand and the unavailability of corporation services, which results in an increase in the operation of unauthorized vehicles on the notified routes,” the speaker said.

Regarding service classifications, they will be divided into five categories: express, limited-stop, shuttle local, rural, and superfast services.

For each of these services, the transport company has established guidelines for the number of stops and average speeds. For example, rural buses have a set average speed of 40 km/h and will stop at each station along the route. Limited stop service buses are only permitted to travel an average of 54 km/h and will not stop at any hamlet or suburb with a population of fewer than 5,000. Only block-level communities or towns with 25,000 residents and an average speed restriction of 60 km/h will see express service buses halt.
