2-Year-Old Peruvian Boy Saved by Doctors After Ingesting 8 Needles

Doctors were able to resuscitate a two-year-old kid who ingested eight needles while playing on a family farm. Unidentified child was having fun in the farm where his mother works close to Tarapoto, Peru. The needles intended for injecting cows were ingested by him. The kid had emergency surgery last week after being transported from a farm in the Mariscal Caceres area to Tarapoto’s Hospital II-2. All eight needles were found within his digestive tract, two of them dangerously near to his rectum and bladder, according to the X-ray report. One of them suffered a slight intestinal injury.

Eight needles were reportedly removed by physicians in under two hours, according to accounts. It is harmful to swallow sharp items since they may pierce internal organs and cause serious bleeding and digestive fluid leakage. Surgeon Efrain Salazar Tito told CEN that although getting them out cost him a little money, they were able to do it with God’s help and even managed to get the bottom ones out.

According to a statement from the regional administration, there were two needles on the right side of the peritoneum, which borders the abdominal cavity, three on the left, one on the abdominal wall, and two more that were dangerously close to the bladder and rectum.

The mother of the kid, Narly Olortegui Pisco, expressed her thanks to the medical professionals for saving her son. She told the reporters that her son’s condition would have worsened and the result would have been different if the physicians hadn’t performed the prompt surgery.

Being a single mother, Narly drives her kid to school since no one else is available to watch him. She said that she was preoccupied with her work at the time and didn’t see that he had eaten the needles. When youngsters first start to crawl or walk, she said, “sometimes they put anything in their mouths.”

The boy’s small intestinal lesions were treated by doctors. The youngster had surgery, was given a temporary liquid diet, and was eventually released from the hospital after several days.

However, the hospital informed the police about the event since they didn’t know how the kid could have ingested so many needles and thought he could have been abused.
