Hollywood remake of Sholay, starring Robert De Niro as Jai and Julia Roberts as Basanti

The popular Bollywood movie Sholay is a perfect illustration of the proverb “old is gold.” Sholay continues to be a favorite film among both the older and younger generations even after 48 years. In light of this, it was just a matter of time until an AI artist used this “cinematic gold” as inspiration and produced a piece of art.

A trailer of the recently-reimagined Hollywood version of the movie by an AI artist is now going viral. The artist’s description for the film, which was posted on Reddit by a person going by the handle “ShadyKaran,” was “What If Sholay Was Made In Hollywood.”

We associate the faces of the performers who said the well-known lines “Kitne aadmi the?” and “Basanti in kutto ke samne mat nachna” with in our memories. While it may be hard to see other performers in these roles in the context of the viral film, several netizens were still astonished by how well the imagined Hollywood ensemble was chosen.

However, several of the chosen looks did spark discussion among online users. Robert De Niro portrays the role of “Jai” in the viral video, while Julia Roberts plays the role of “Basanti”. Kevin Spacey played the legendary “Thakur,” while Jack Nicholson was seen as the actor who played “Gabbar.”

Netizens responded to the footage with a variety of remarks. Even names for the characters seen in the clip were offered by some people. “Naah Brando as Thakur,” a user wrote. “Kevin Spacey excels at playing psychopaths. An honest guy, Baldev Singh urf Thakur was. Another user said, “That is a miscast there; Gene Hackman would have fit.

On the other side, a small number of online users returned to the infamous “Sholey is based on Hollywood movie” controversy. “It was. Sergio Leone’s spaghetti westerns, particularly For a Few Dollars more and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, served as a vague inspiration for Sholay. There is a laugh moment and the main antagonist Indio from FAFDM is remarkably identical to Gabbar,” a third user said.
