Internet-Curious Desi Man Sitting on Raw Paneer Feels ‘Curd’ of Concern

In Desi homes, paneer is a treasured treat that is loved whether our moms prepare large meals or when health-conscious gym goers can’t get enough of its filling, healthy deliciousness. Although many homes prepare their paneer from scratch, if you can buy cottage cheese by the weight at your local dairy, it’s a practical option. But a horrifying picture has surfaced online, making Desi people shudder and worry about their personal cleanliness.

A photo of a guy in a lungi sitting on something above mounds of thick, uncovered paneer with extra water dripping onto a dish below was shared by user @zhr_jafri on the microblogging platform “X.” The user was compelled to declare, “After seeing this, I will never buy non-branded paneer again.” The internet started to speculate whether even well-known businesses engaged in such disgusting and unhygienic activities, and it even begged the issue of whether similar instances happen in neighborhood dairy stores.

“How would this paneer be packaged, labeled, and sold? LoL,” a user said. Another joke was, “People with Gucci shoes sit on branded paneer.”

A third laughed cynically, “Yeah, branded paneer guys wear branded lungis or bermudas during this process.”

Although the photograph purports to be from “Kanpur, UP,” the exact site of this occurrence is still unknown, underscoring the necessity to exercise care when purchasing such items from the market.

The original poster, however, expressed doubts about whether companies used the same procedures and even shared a video showing the remarkably clean paneer processing process at Paras Dairy in Udaipur.

There have been previous reports of unsanitary paneer manufacturing. Authorities in Vasai, Maharashtra’s Konkan division, confiscated almost 2,000 kg of paneer in 2019 that had been produced in filthy circumstances at two milk dairies. To ascertain the legitimacy of the cottage cheese, samples were submitted to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for testing. This raid happened soon after it was discovered that a dairy in Vasai was using sulfuric acid to make paneer.
