This is the only Shiva temple in India where the Shivling is covered with Vaishnav Tilak

The Puranas and other ancient literature provide descriptions of several old myths and stories that are native to our land. Numerous current buildings in the nation were built on the foundations of these historical stories, which serve as a testament to our rich cultural past. The Shiva temple in Jamui, Bihar, is one of them. The Shivling is worshipped at this Shiva temple in a manner that is distinct from all other Shivlings in the nation, making it very special.

Every Shivling receives tripund tilak, which consists of three straight lines of Tilak. Except for the temple in Jamui, where a Vaishnav tilak is placed on the Shivling, this Tripund Shaiva tilak is used across the world to worship Lord Shiva. Pankaj Pandey, a temple priest, claims that this is the only Shivling of this kind in the nation. According to Pankaj Pandey, the Ramayana is where this unique form of devotion originated.

The temple is said to have been the scene of Pakshiraj Jatayu’s demise. Pakshiraj Jatayu had asked Lord Ram for a blessing at the time of his death, requesting that something be done to immortalize his name. Then, Lord Rama built a Shivling here with Jatayu’s ashes, covering it with the Vaishnav tilak. Since then, the Shivling has been revered in the same manner throughout time. Every Maha Shivratri, a large fair is held here, and Lord Shiva is also carried out in a large procession.

In the heart of this cluster of temples sits a well, and even it has a fascinating history. Lakshman’s arrow is said to have been used to make the well at this location. It is said that there was no water for the Jalabhishekh when Lord Ram built the Shivling here. Laxman had then fired an arrow into the earth, creating a well. Each year, people from Jharkhand, as well as those from Bihar, go to this well-known temple to worship Lord Shiva.
