A Bengaluruan woman accuses Swiggy of being a “high-class digital scam” for overcharging its premium members

Big food delivery companies Swiggy and Zomato often get criticism from irate clients for a variety of reasons. Due to problems with overcharging, delivery agent behavior, and other concerns, some have gone so far as to label these services as “scams.” The most recent instance in Bengaluru was a lady who, despite having a premium Swiggy One membership, was overcharged.

She resorted to Reddit to vent her dissatisfaction with Swiggy. She used two accounts, one with the membership and the other without, to order the same meal from the restaurant to a single address, according to her post. Surprisingly, the non-member account only paid Rs 241 for the meal, but the Swiggy One account was charged Rs 309 by the site.

The lady said in the article, “Consider before purchasing your Swiggy One membership. This is a sophisticated online fraud. same order, same restaurant, same time, and same place of delivery. Left: One Swiggy order (no coupon for a discount was offered). Yes, there was a discount code available, but not for Swiggy. Loyal consumers who purchased a Swiggy One membership and are paying them on a monthly basis are treated so unfairly by this.

Users on Reddit responded to the message in a variety of ways. While some branded it a massive fraud and backed the lady, others provided reasoned responses.

“All food delivery companies are scum,” a user remarked while sharing their own experience. I just placed an order with Zomato, and after two hours, I phoned to request a cancellation. They claim it will result in food waste and other miscellaneous issues. “I have people here who need to eat. I can’t wait any longer,” I tell them. Customer service is stating that you will never be allowed to pay with cash on delivery. I told her, “Checkmate, I’m never using Zomato again.”

“I have also noticed this,” another person said. All of the discounts vanished when I purchased Swiggy One, and my costs went up. How wasteful.

“Is this a restaurant discount or a user-based coupon?” a person inquired. User-based vouchers are in line with business strategy and don’t follow the reasoning you assert in the description. For instance, someone would have received a discount of at least Rs. 150 if this had been their first purchase.

One remark said, “I would rather go parcel myself or eat and come. They’re full of fraud.”

“COVID is over, just go to the restaurant and pick up your food, save money,” was another suggestion.

The post that was made on Bangalore’s subreddit page became very popular very fast, receiving more than 750 upvotes.
