There will be a third election in the Pataliputra Lok Sabha seat between Misa Bharti and Ram Kripal Yadav

In Bihar, one of the most well-known Lok Sabha seats is Pataliputra. One of the two seats in the capital city of Patna, which is Pataliputra and Patna Sahib, is the Pataliputra constituency. Six assembly seats make up the Pataliputra constituency: Danapur, Maner, Phulwari, Masaurhi, Paliganj, and Bikram. Of the six, three belonged to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and four to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), led by Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Pataliputra is a challenging polling ground. It consistently witnesses a tight battle between the RJD and the NDA (JD-U and BJP). In the previous three Lok Sabha elections, the two opponents’ vote shares differed by a mere 3–5%.

Once again, Lalu Prasad Yadav supported his daughter Misa Bharti, who ran unsuccessfully for the Lok Sabha twice, in 2009 and 2014, against Ram Kripal Yadav, the head of the Bharatiya Janata Party. In the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Yadav became victorious against her. This is her third effort to take down Yadav. Yadav is a former leader of the RJD who, after Lalu Prasad Yadav refused him a ticket for the Lok Sabha election, joined the saffron party in 2014. Lalu’s daughter was defeated by him, but it was by a narrow margin. Although Bharti received a significant portion of the votes in both Lok Sabha elections, she was not quite able to defeat Yadav.

Even if the constituency’s political landscape hasn’t altered much in ten years, a fierce battle is once again evident. Bharti is focusing on swing voters in the district who hold deciding power.

After defecting to the BJP, Yadav won the seat in the 2014 general elections with 3,83,262 votes. He triumphed against Bharti, who received 3,42,940 votes. In the Lok Sabha elections of 2019, Yadav became victorious with 5,09,557 votes, surpassing the total of 4,70,236 votes cast for Lalu’s daughter.
