10% Increase in GST Collection in September 2023: State-by-State Records

The Gross GST receipts for September 2023 increased to a record-breaking Rs 1,62,712 crore, representing a remarkable 10% gain compared to the prior year. This is a big economic development. With this amazing collection, the largest monthly GST income has ever been recorded.

According to information released by the Union Ministry of Finance, “The gross GST revenue for September 2023 amounted to Rs.1,62,712 crore, comprising CGST at Rs.29,818 crore, SGST at Rs.37,657 crore, IGST at Rs.83,623 crore (inclusive of Rs.41,145 crore from import of goods), and cess at Rs.11,613 crore (including Rs.881 crore from import of goods).”

With this accomplishment, the federal government has for the fourth time during the fiscal year 2023–2024 crossed the 1.60 lakh crore GST milestone. An excellent 11% year-over-year rise resulted in an average monthly gross GST collection for the fiscal year of Rs 1.65 lakh crore.

Also acknowledged by the Union Finance Ministry was the federal government’s distribution of Rs 33,736 crore to CGST and Rs 27,578 crore to SGST from IGST.

The total income for the Center and States for September 2023, after the usual settlement, is Rs 63,555 crore for CGST and Rs 65,235 crore for SGST. In comparison to the same month last year, this outstanding income performance reflects a stunning 10% increase in GST revenue.

When compared to the same month last year, domestic transaction revenues—which includes income from the import of services—showed a strong 14% gain. This is the fourth time in FY 2023–24 that the gross GST collection has exceeded the $1.60 trillion level.

Growth in GST Revenues by State in September 2023

Following is a breakdown of state-by-state GST revenue increase in September 2023:

Jammu & Kashmir had a 32% increase in revenue, from Rs. 428 crore to Rs. 563 crore.

10% rise in Himachal Pradesh, from Rs. 712 crore to Rs. 784 crore.

Punjab: From Rs. 1,710 crore to Rs. 1,866 crore, there was a 9% gain.

Chandigarh had a 6% increase, from 206 to 219 crore rupees.

From Rs. 1,300 crore to Rs. 1,392 crore, Uttarakhand had a 7% gain.

Haryana: an increase of 8%, from Rs. 7,403 billion to Rs. 8,009 billion.

Delhi: from 4,741 to 4,849 billion rupees, there was a 2% gain.

Rajasthan: from Rs. 3,307 crore to Rs. 3,869 crore, there was a 17% gain.

12% rise in Uttar Pradesh, from Rs. 7,004 crore to Rs. 7,844 crore.

Bihar: From Rs. 1,466 crore to Rs. 1,397 crore, there has been a modest decline of 5%.

Sikkim: an increase of 11%, from Rs. 285 to Rs. 315 crore.

From Rs. 64 crore to Rs. 81 crore, Arunachal Pradesh had a 27% rise.

5% rise in Nagaland, from Rs. 49 crore to Rs. 52 crore.

From Rs.38 crore to Rs.56 crore, Manipur had a 47% gain.

Mizoram: a 14% increase, from Rs. 24 crore to Rs.

13% rise in Tripura, from Rs. 65 crore to Rs. 73 crore.

Meghalaya: A 2% increase, from Rs. 161 crore to Rs.

From Rs. 1,157 crore to Rs. 1,175 crore, Assam had a 2% gain.

West Bengal: from Rs. 4,804 crore to Rs. 4,940 crore, there was a 3% gain.

Jharkhand saw a 7% increase in revenue, from Rs. 2,463 crore to Rs. 2,623 crore.

From Rs.3,765 crore to Rs.4,249 crore, Odisha had a 13% gain.

Chhattisgarh saw an 18% increase in revenue, from Rs. 2,269 crore to Rs. 2,684 crore.

Madhya Pradesh had a 15% increase, from Rs. 2,711 billion to Rs. 3,118 billion.

Gujarat: From Rs. 9,020 crore to Rs. 10,129 crore, there was a 12% gain.

12% rise, from Rs. 312 crore to Rs. 350 crore, was recorded in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu.

Maharashtra saw a 17% increase, from Rs.21,403 billion to Rs.25,137 billion.

Karnataka: rise of 20%, from Rs. 9,760 billion to Rs. 11,693 billion.

Goa: 429 crore rupees increased by 16% to 497 crore rupees.

Lakshadweep: A drop from Rs. 3 crore to Rs. 2 crore, a 45% decrease.

Kerala: from Rs. 2,246 crore to Rs. 2,505 crore, there was a 12% rise.

From Rs. 8,637 crore to Rs. 10,481 crore, Tamil Nadu had a 21% rise.

Puducherry: a 5% increase, from Rs. 188 crore to Rs.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands: From Rs. 33 crore to Rs. 23 crore, a fall of 30%.

From Rs. 3,915 crore to Rs. 5,226 crore, Telangana had a 33% gain.

Andhra Pradesh had a 17% increase, from Rs. 3,132 billion to Rs. 3,658 billion.

Ladakh: From Rs. 19 crore to Rs. 35 crore, there was a significant 81% rise.

Other Territory: A 2% increase, from Rs. 202 to Rs. 207.

8% rise, from Rs. 182 crore to Rs. 196 crore, in the Center Jurisdiction.

Grand Total: The total GST revenue collected in September 2023 was Rs. 1,20,686 crore, up an amazing 14% from the same month the year before.

For the month of September 2023, India’s states and Union Territories are expected to generate more money thanks to this strong performance in GST collecting.
