Dev Patel received a standing ovation at SXSW 2024 after breaking his hand, toes, and shoulder during Monkey Man

With Monkey Man, Dev Patel is ready to make his directing debut, but the road hasn’t been simple. For this independent film, the actor who starred in the Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire took on the role of director. Monkey Man had its international debut by Dev at SXSW in Austin, Texas, and the feedback was good. There was also a standing ovation for the movie. Dev gave tales about the movie at a Q&A session that took place after the viewing. He disclosed in the conversation that he had many fractures while filming the movie.

“Two weeks before [the] filming, I fractured my foot and some other things. That hurt a lot. I tore my shoulder then. Then, on day two, in the midst of the altercation in the restroom, I shattered my hand. That seemed like, “All right, let’s do it again.” Production is expected to decline. I can’t see this movie with a cast. We lack the funds to fully illustrate this digitally. According to Slash Film, he said, “We had this cheap medical jet that wouldn’t break the bubble and we had this COVID protocol.”

After the whole night of filming, my hand felt like an elephant. It is depicted in the movie. Sometimes there is some bandage; this is from the procedure.
