Jungkook of BTS channels his inner Michael Jackson in the music video for “Standing Next to You”

On Friday, November 3, the music video for the third song from BTS member Jungkook’s first solo album Golden, Standing Next to You, finally drops. Elevated by groovy sounds, the K-pop star captures the essence of the almost 4-minute piece with his amazing dancing skills and intricate choreography. Although Standing Next to You is quite different from your typical romantic song, it expresses the same feelings of love. Drums that have a strong beat complement the song’s gentle tempo, creating a mood that will make you move. After arriving in a “Limos only” region looking smart in a formal vest fit, Jungkook begins his pursuit of an enigmatic beauty.

He performs it slowly while dancing in a golden-lit tunnel, which is representative of the album’s title. Jungkook’s lyrics, which alternate between rushing after the enigmatic beauty and dancing around her, attest to the fact that “We’ll survive the test of time/ They can’t deny our love/ They can’t divide us.” Following the tunnel scene, the K-pop sensation dons an avatar akin to Michael Jackson, complete with an elegant jacket adorned with shimmering silver tassels.

In addition, he flawlessly mimics a few of the late legend’s characteristic dances as backing dancers perform on an unpolished stage. The sole dark aspect in the otherwise golden-lit video is when he models a magnificent set of black angel wings just before the second chorus. “You know it’s deeper than the train/ it’s deeper than the pain/ When it’s deep like DNA/ Something they can’t take away,” he sings in the catchy chorus, “Standing next to you/ Standing in the fire next to you.”

The song video culminates with a captivating on-stage dance performance by the BTS maknae, who at last finds himself standing before his enigmatic lady.

His earlier singles, Seven with Latto and 3D, with Grammy-nominated rapper Jack Harlow, came before this song. Apart from this, Golden is full of Jungkook’s many partnerships with elite artists. For the songs “Please Don’t Change” and “Closer To You,” he collaborated with DJ Snake and Major Lazer, with composers such as Ed Sheeran and Shawn Mendes acknowledged.

On Friday, November 3, Jungkook’s first solo album Golden was made available.
