Rakesh Roshan on the ‘Krish 4’ controversy: Nowadays’s Big Films Aren’t Doing That Well

It would be fair to assume that the fourth installment of Hrithik Roshan’s popular superhero series, “Krish 4,” has been eagerly anticipated by fans. Rakesh Roshan, the director, has since expressed his worries about the movie going into production. He told India Today that he was not immediately planning to take the movie on floors since the crowd was hesitant to return to theaters.

The first movie in the series, “Koi Mil Gaya,” came out in 2003. “Krrish” came out in 2006, and “Krrish 3” came out in 2013. Hrithik had said that Krrish 4 would ‘happen pretty soon’ this year. But before he starts shooting, his father Rakesh Roshan, a filmmaker, wants to wait.

“The public is still not returning to the theaters, so it raises a lot of questions in my mind. Krrish will be a successful movie. Kids nowadays are used to seeing Hollywood superhero pictures with budgets of around $500 million to $600 million due to the shrinking size of the earth. In contrast, we have a modest budget of $200–$300 million,” Rakesh told India Today.

He said, “How can we give the movie that look? Of course, I may choose to have four action sequences rather than ten, but the action and quality must match. The VFX must be of high quality. We can maintain the manufacturing costs and the budget as a whole. Large-scale movies of days aren’t performing all that well… We are without a doubt prepared to go ahead.

He continued by saying that since box office results are poor and revenues don’t cover production expenses, the movie won’t be released for another 12 months.

The release of “Krish 4” has been postponed many times since it was initially announced in 2018.
