This Malayalam actor has delivered more hits in a year than either Shah Rukh Khan or Amitabh Bachchan combined
We know how well-known Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Rajinikanth are, and how much their followers adore them. In the South Asian film business, there is one superstar who can easily rival the greatest names in terms of fame. He is one of the most well-known figures in the Malayalam film industry, Mohanlal Vishwanathan Nair. He has often shown his acting abilities in the Malayalam, Bollywood, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada film industries.
He has made appearances in almost 400 motion pictures in a variety of genres. In 1980, he made his formal cinema debut in the love picture Manjil Virinja Pookkal. In the movie, he portrayed a villain. He debuted in Bollywood with the gangster movie Company in 2002. Alongside Vivek Oberoi, Manisha Koirala, and Ajay Devgn, the film was directed by Ram Gopal Varma. For his role in the movie, Mohanlal won the 48th Filmfare Awards’ Best Supporting Actor category.
Films like Iruvar, Drishyam, Janatha Garage, His Highness Abdullah, Midhunam, Kilukkam, Lucifer, and many more are among his other noteworthy works. His first non-Malayalam film, Iruvar, was released in 1997 and was based on the lives of M Karunanidhi and MG Ramachandran. Mani Ratnam directed the film.
Mohanlal has won nine Kerala State Film Awards in addition to five National Awards. The Indian government honored him with the Padma Shree in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan in 2019 for his services to Indian film. More sources state that he is the record holder for most hits in a single year.
The first Malayalam movie to gross over Rs 200 crore at the box office was Lucifer (2019), starring Mohanlal in the lead role. Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, and Vivek Oberoi all had significant parts in the Prithviraj Sukumaran-directed movie. Antony Perumbavoor produced it under the auspices of Aashirvad Cinemas. A follow-up movie called L2: Empuraan is also under development and is slated for release in 2025.
