“A kind man, Buta Singh Gill would assist Indians in Canada without expecting anything in return.”

According to Canada-based CTV News Edmonton, a shooting in south Edmonton, Canada, on Monday claimed the lives of two people, one of whom was of Indian descent.

The guy of Indian descent has been identified as Buta Singh Gill, who owns Gill Built Homes in Edmonton.

According to a news statement from Edmonton police, patrol officers from Southwest Branch responded to a complaint of gunfire in the vicinity of Cavanagh Boulevard Southwest and Cherniak Way Southwest. According to the statement, two men’s deaths in southwest Edmonton are being looked into by the Edmonton Police Service (EPS).

According to Edmonton police, “At approximately 12:00 p.m. today, Monday, Apr. 8, 2024, Southwest Branch patrol officers responded to the report of a shooting in the area of Cavanagh Boulevard SW and Cherniak Way SW.” “Three male victims were discovered when the cops arrived. When emergency medical personnel arrived, they discovered that a 51-year-old man had suffered critical injuries and two guys, ages 49 and 57, had died. The guy who survived was taken by paramedics to the hospital due to severe injuries that may have killed him,” it said.

The Edmonton Police Service said in the news release that the murder department has assumed control of the investigation and that no suspects are being sought for. The autopsies have been set for Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the police.

According to CTV News Edmonton, one of the victims’ relatives has identified him as Buta Singh Gill, the proprietor of Gill Built Homes in Edmonton. On Monday afternoon, a minimum of fifty individuals convened at the location, with the bulk belonging to the South Asian home-building community.

The Edmonton officers Service issued the following statement, which was posted on X: “Police are asking citizens to avoid the area of Cavanagh Blvd SW and 30 Avenue SW while police investigate a shooting that occurred in the residential area around noon.” Responding authorities have secured the area, thus there are now no urgent concerns for the safety of the public. This inquiry will be headed by EPS homicide detectives. There are no further specifics at this time,” it continued.

According to CTV News Edmonton, Mohinder Banga, a former member of the EPS and city councillor for Edmonton, claimed he arrived at the scene of the shooting upon learning that Gill had lost his life.

According to Mohinder Banga, “He was such a kind guy, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need and never asking for anything in return. That was his characteristic.” He said, “Obviously, you can see all the people here, they’re all well-wishers and the community is in shock right now.” While returning home, Lindsay Hilton, a witness to the incident, claimed to have seen a guy strolling along Cavanagh Boulevard dressed in construction gear. A black automobile, according to her, pulled out from a nearby work site, made a U-turn, and then pulled up behind the guy, bumping him.

Hilton told CTV Edmonton, “The man in the construction vest had his gun out, pointed at the car and shot once into the driver’s side window, then I went right around the corner because I didn’t know what was going to happen.” She said, “I heard two more gunshots following.” Hilton claimed to have stopped and called 911. According to a CTV News Edmonton article, she stated, “I have had moments of breaking down like this into tears because it’s just something I think that you just don’t expect to see in broad daylight.”

She said, “It just looked like another interaction of guys stopping to talk at the construction site, so when I saw him pull that gun and shoot, it just took me a minute even to put together what happened.” Another mother, Abby Sieban, claimed to have heard gunshots while out on a stroll with her kids in the stroller.
