An Indian dies in a US fire

Fazil Khan, a 27-year-old Indian national employed here as a journalist, unfortunately perished in a terrible Manhattan apartment building fire that was started by a lithium-ion battery. About seventeen more persons were hurt in the incident. The disastrous fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery, according to the New York City Fire Department’s marshals.

Khan worked as a journalist for The Hechinger Report, a New York-based media outlet that covers educational innovation and inequality. The Indian Consulate General in New York expressed its condolences for Khan’s passing and said that it would do all within its power to help get his body back to his family in India.

The Consulate posted on X on Saturday, saying it was “saddened to learn about the death of 27-year-old Indian national Fazil Khan in an unfortunate fire incident in Harlem, NY.” According to the Consulate, Khan’s friends and relatives are being contacted.

The Consulate said, “We continue to extend all possible assistance in the repatriation of his mortal remains to India.”
