Videos on the internet show three students raising the Palestinian flag over the famous John Harvard monument, which is normally covered with the Stars and Stripes. This happened at around 6:30 p.m., according to The Harvard Crimson. According to reports, during the event, three flags were raised on campus.

A spokesman for the university condemned the acts in response to the tragedy, pointing out that they were against Harvard policy. The representative for Harvard Facilities said, “The flags raised by protesters over University Hall were removed by Harvard facilities staff,” and threatened to discipline those responsible.

Online users’ views on the incident were divided; some were vehemently in favor of it while others were fiercely against it. Commentators who supported military intervention and decried the protestors’ behavior said that they were part of a plot to undermine Western ideals.

X user Mor Hogeg said on Sunday, “These pro-Hamas protesters’ sole agenda is to eradicate every western value and every basic human right while establishing an Islamic Sharia law regime.”

Numerous American college campuses, including Columbia University and other Ivy League schools, have seen similar instances. Chants of “Free, free Palestine” echoed from Harvard University during a student demonstration supporting the Palestinian cause.

The Harvard Crimson reports that campus employees swiftly took down the Palestinian flag after it was raised, drawing jeers from the gathered students.
