Australia is eager to remove barriers to Chinese meat and lobster exports

Sydney: A government official said that Australia is concentrating on reducing obstacles to its shipments to China of live lobsters and beef from certain sources, only one day after Beijing announced it would remove tariffs on Australian wine.

Australia’s biggest commercial partner, China, and the country are mending fences following a tense time that peaked in 2020 when Canberra demanded an independent probe into the source of COVID-19.

Trade disputes regarding wine, coal, and barley have been settled; however, shipments from eight meat export businesses and live lobster exports from Australia are still prohibited by Chinese law.
Assistant Trade Minister Tim Ayres said during a press conference that “there is still progress to be made in relation to beef, progress to be made in relation to certain categories of seafood.” “We are going to keep the focus on those sectors at the official level and at the ministerial level to resolve those differences,” he said.
