China denounces the US over reports of a “spy base” in Cuba as “rumors and slander”

In reaction to rumors that Beijing planned to establish a spy facility on the island close off American beaches, China cautioned the United States against “interfering in Cuba’s internal affairs” on Friday.

The media claims, which were based on statements made by unnamed US officials to The Wall Street Journal and CNN, were denounced as “mendacious and unfounded” by Cuba’s deputy foreign minister, and erroneous by the White House.

At a routine news conference, when questioned about the suspected eavesdropping station, Wang Wenbin, a spokeswoman for the Chinese foreign ministry, stated he was “unaware of the situation” before criticizing US policies toward Cuba.

As everyone is aware, the United States often uses defamation and rumor-mongering as a strategy, and its trademark is willfully meddling in the internal affairs of other nations, according to Wang.

The US should examine its own behavior, cease meddling in Cuba’s internal affairs in the name of freedom and democracy, and promptly lift the economic, commercial, and financial blockade on the island.

According to the sources, the Chinese spy facility would be able to listen in on conversations throughout significant portions of the Southeast United States.

The changes occur as Chinese President Xi Jinping pushes for a swift increase in China’s security presence abroad.

A station in Cuba, which is 150 kilometers (90 miles) off the southern point of Florida, would pose the greatest direct threat to the continental United States to date.

In order to spy on the United States electronically, the Soviet Union set up operations in communist Cuba.

However, in 1962, when Moscow tried to establish a nuclear missile base in Cuba, the United States imposed a quarantine on the island, threatening to start a war between the two superpowers unless Moscow relented.

The Soviets saw Washington’s nuclear-capable missiles in Turkey as a danger, thus they were later evacuated by Washington.

China traversed the US earlier this year with what the US described as a high-altitude surveillance balloon. Before being shot down by a US fighter plane, it hovered over important military locations from west to east.
