Cleveland, Ohio, USA discovered a Hyderabad student who had been missing for a month dead

Cleveland, a US city, discovered the body of a 25-year-old Indian student who had gone missing last month. This is the second such tragedy in as many weeks, and the town is still reeling from the recent tragedies.

Originating in Nacharam, Hyderabad, Mohammad Abdul Arfath came to the US in May of last year to attend Cleveland University to pursue a master’s degree in information technology.

The Indian Consulate General in New York posted on X, expressing its “anguish to learn that Mr. Mohammed Abdul Arfath, for whom search operation was underway, was found dead in Cleveland, Ohio.”

The Consulate expressed its “deepest condolences” to Arfath’s family and stated it is in contact with local authorities to guarantee a comprehensive inquiry into his death.

“We are extending all possible assistance to the bereaved family to transport his mortal remains to India,” the consulate said.

The Consulate said last month that it was assisting the local law enforcement in their efforts to find the Indian student.

Mohammed Saleem, Arfath’s father, had said that Arfath had not spoken with his family since March 7, when he last talked to him. He has also turned off his cell phone.

The Consulate had said, “We are working with local law enforcement agencies to find him as soon as possible.”

Administrator Biden is “extremely hard” in preventing assaults on Indian students: White House Arfath’s American roommates had notified their father that they had reported him missing to Cleveland Police.

However, on March 19, Arfath’s family got a call from an unknown individual claiming to be from a group that sold narcotics and demanding USD 1,200 to “release” Arfath.

Arfath’s father said that the caller allegedly threatened to sell his kidneys if the ransom wasn’t paid.

“My son was abducted, and the caller told me this over the phone, demanding money. I received a call from an unknown number. The caller just requested to be paid the sum and did not specify the method of payment. The caller refused to let us speak with my kid when I requested him to,” Saleem told PTI in Hyderabad.

Arfath’s parents have asked that the Central government find their son and securely return him to them. Additionally, Saleem wrote to S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs.

This event is only the most recent of a number of alarming instances concerning the security and safety of Indian students studying in the US.

Uma Satya Sai Gadde, an Indian student in Ohio, passed away last week, and the police are looking into her death.
