Indian-origin woman blames Air Canada for her father’s death

An Indian-Canadian lady has accused Air Canada of being careless, causing her father’s death on a journey from Delhi to Montreal at the age of 83.

Ontario native Shanu Pande and her father Harish Pant boarded an Air Canada trip from Delhi to Canada in September. Seven hours later, during the lengthy journey over Europe, Pant reportedly started experiencing serious medical problems, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). The inability to stand up, back discomfort, chest pain, lack of bowel control, and vomiting were among these symptoms.

In order to transport her father to a hospital, Pande then pleaded with the cabin crew of the flag carrier to alter their route and land.

Nevertheless, the plane kept flying for nine more hours, crossing the Atlantic Ocean, Eastern Canada, and Ireland before reaching Montreal, where paramedics were waiting. But while they were tending to him, Pant died.

The trip from Delhi to Montreal is over seventeen hours long.

The article quotes Pande as saying, “He was deteriorating in front of my eyes.”

Pande said that her father was finally going to fly from India to Canada with permanent resident status, and she had been looking forward to the trip for years.

She asserted in the report that Air Canada’s refusal to recognize her father’s symptoms as potentially fatal may have resulted in his death.

Pande described her father as being “at the mercy of the pilot and Air Canada people.” “They were callous and inhumane,” the woman said.

Meanwhile, “any assertions that it was responsible for the customer’s death” were “categorically” refuted by Air Canada.

The personnel “properly followed the procedures” for handling medical crises on board, according to airline spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick, the article said.

When pressed, he refused to provide an explanation of the steps, the report said.
