Mazi Pilip is who? Trump mocks the “foolish” Republican after the defeat in the special election in New York

In the special House election held on Tuesday to succeed George Santos in the 3rd congressional district of New York, Republican Mazi Pilip—a relatively unknown lawmaker from Nassau County—lost to Democratic former Representative Tom Suozzi.

Suozzi prevented Republicans from expanding their already slim majority in the House of Representatives by defeating rival Pilip.

Suozzi will be filling in for Santos, who was ousted from Congress in December on fraud accusations.

At her campaign headquarters, Pilip addressed her followers, saying, “We are fighters.” Even if we lost, this is not where things will stop. Yes, I did give my opponent a call. Indeed, I did congratulate him.

“You are dedicated workers who cherish our nation. That being said, let’s keep going and fight because we are not going to give up. I swear to you, we’re going to provide common sense governance,” she said.

Veteran politician Suozzi, who served in that capacity before leaving to run unsuccessfully for New York state governor, also spoke to his followers after the victory, telling them that “we won” in spite of the “dirty tricks” and criticism. Additionally, he praised X (previously Twitter) voters.

He was stopped by protesters yelling, “You’re supporting genocide, stop supporting genocide!” “We won this race—we, you, won this race because we addressed the issues and we found a way to bind our divisions,” he declared. and “Ceasefire immediately! You’re in favor of genocide!

In response to Suozzi’s victory, the Biden campaign said, “Donald Trump lost again tonight.”
The campaign of President Joe Biden celebrated Suozzi’s victory, calling it a “direct blow” to former President Donald Trump and a success for Biden’s domestic program.

Julie Chavez Rodriguez, the campaign manager for Joe Biden, said in a statement, “Donald Trump lost again tonight,” omitting to include Suozzi. “Voters reject Republicans who run on Trump’s extreme agenda, even in a seat held by Republicans.”

She also drew a direct line of correlation between Suozzi’s win and Republican efforts to block the administration’s supplemental national security package from being passed.

“Trump and the House’s MAGA fanatics are already suffering electoral consequences for upending a bipartisan agreement to protect our borders and reform our dysfunctional immigration system.”

Republicans selected Pilip, a man with a fascinating personal story but no political experience, to take Santos’ place. a Jewish immigrant who was born in Ethiopia and joined the Israel Defense Forces prior to being granted legal immigration status in the US. 2009 saw her become a citizen of the US.

Pilip was elected to her first and only position in the Nassau County Legislature part-time in 2021. Despite her Republican party campaigning, she remains a registered Democrat.
