A US man was taken into custody after he reportedly shot and killed his roommate over a dispute over the television remote. Regarding the murder of Domonique Scott Hayes, 27, last week, 38-year-old Richard Bennaugh was charged with manslaughter, according to Fox News.

Prince George’s County Police said on Instagram that they responded to the incident on January 10 (Wednesday) at around 12:30 p.m. Mr. Scott Hayes was discovered deceased when police arrived at the residence.
The Instagram post went on to say, “The preliminary investigation revealed Bennaugh shot the decedent during a dispute.”

According to police records acquired by Fox 5 DC, the police were contacted six hours after the gunshot, which took place between 5.30 and 6 a.m.

According to the publication, Bennaugh also said to the police that his roommate “had come at him with knives”.

According to Bennaugh, Mr. Scott Hayes “making a lot of noise” in the kitchen woke him up when he fell asleep on the couch, according to the records.

The suspect disregarded Mr. Scott Hayes when he questioned Bennaugh where the remote was many times. When Bennaugh took off the blanket covering his head, he reportedly saw Mr. Scott Hayes brandishing two knives.

With lightning speed, he sprung off the couch, picked up his pistol, opened fire, and dashed to the third story.

Several gunshot holes going to Mr. Scott Hayes’s bedroom were discovered by the police.

After claiming not to have seen any injuries on Mr. Scott Hayes, Bennaugh concluded he had not been wounded by any gunshots and returned to his slumber. According to NBC News, he informed the authorities that he had shot Mr. Scott Hayes in self-defense.
