Separate events in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan resulted in the deaths of six security officers and twelve terrorists

In the last two days, separate terror events and security operations in Pakistan’s restive regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have claimed the lives of six security officers, including a senior police officer, and twelve terrorists, authorities said on Sunday.

Four terrorists were killed in two distinct instances in the Balochistan region, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media branch of the Pakistani military.

Eight terrorists were killed in an operation by security forces in the Dera Ismail Khan region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in the Kot Sultan area of Kulachi tehsil, according to the ISPR.

It also said that the killed terrorists’ guns, ammo, and explosives were found by the security forces.

Officials said that armed miscreants murdered a DSP, two police officers, and wounded a constable in two separate instances on Friday night in Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the authorities, DSP Gul Muhammad and other police officers had established a makeshift roadblock on the heavily traveled Peshawar-Karachi highway as part of the police’s security measures ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday.

The DSP and Constable Naseem Gul were killed when armed individuals opened fire on the police vehicle at Manjiwala Chowk as they were leaving the checkpoint, according to the report.

Constable Sanamat Khan was slain in another incident the same evening when unidentified gunmen opened fire on him close to his home in the Sra Darga neighborhood. According to the Dawn, the police officer was on leave and had returned to the area from his post in the North Waziristan district’s Miramshah town.

Furthermore, the report states that on Saturday in Mamund tehsil in Bajaur district, a remote-controlled improvised explosive device went off, killing one police officer and injuring another.

On Saturday night, in the Tank district, a chief constable of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) was assassinated by unidentified individuals close to the Mian Lal police station.

Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, harshly denounced the assault on the police officers in Lakki Marwat. Sharif said on social networking site X that “our resolve cannot be shaken by the cowardly acts of terrorists.” According to the report, K P Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur also condemned the terrorist assaults and gave the police authorities instructions to apprehend the offenders as soon as possible.

Following the Taliban’s takeover of power in Afghanistan in August 2021, Pakistan has been seeing an increase in bloodshed.

Islamabad’s ties with the Taliban rulers of Afghanistan have deteriorated due to the increase in terrorist assaults against Pakistani security forces, many of which are carried out by the Pakistani Taliban.
