The son of Lakshmi Narayan Mandir president in Canada was shot at home

In Surrey, Canada, a man of Indian descent was shot at home. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police then began looking into the event.

The fire took place early on Wednesday, December 27, at the Surrey home of Satish Kumar’s son, who is the president of Lakshmi Narayan Mandir. The event took place at a house in Surrey’s 14900 block of 80 Avenue. No one was hurt during the incident, according to the police.

Constable Parmbir Kahlon, the Surrey Police’s media relations officer, said that gunshot holes were evident in the damage to the home.

“Surrey RCMP responded to a complaint of gunfire at a house in the 14900 block of 80 Avenue on December 27, 2023, at about 8:03 a.m. Although the home involved experienced damage consistent with gunshot holes, no one was hurt during the event. While they were still there, police continued to investigate the site, talk to witnesses, and search the neighborhood for CCTV evidence. The investigation is being conducted by the Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit. The purpose of this occurrence is currently being investigated by the officers. The Surrey Police stated in a news statement that “anyone with further information, including dash cam footage of the incident, is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP.”

The investigation was reportedly carried out by the Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit, and the officers are reportedly trying to ascertain the incident’s motivation while also stating that the culprits’ names are now unknown.

No connection has been established by Surrey Police between the incident and the recent threats made by Surrey’s Laxmi Narayan Mandir.

Chandra Arya, a Canadian member of parliament of Indian descent, posted a supposedly recorded video earlier in November in which she said that followers of Pro Khalistani ideology in Surrey wanted to cause disturbances at the Hindu Laxmi Narayan Mandir.

He stated, “According to certain accounts, last week, supporters of Khalistan verbally assaulted a Sikh family outside a Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, BC. It seems that the same Khalistan organization is now trying to stir up problems at the Surrey Hindu Laxmi Narayan Mandir.”

Saying, “Hindu temples have been attacked many times during the last couple of years,” Arya highlighted the fact that Hindu temples have continued to be targets for assaults over the years. Hindu Canadians are the target of hate crimes.”

Furthermore, in August of this year, radicals in Canada defaced a Hindu shrine with placards supporting the Khalistan referendum.

Graffiti disparaging India was written on the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, in April of this year. Meanwhile, anti-Indian graffiti was written on the Ram Mandir in Mississauga, Canada, in February. Anti-Indian graffiti was written on a Hindu temple in Brampton in January, which infuriated the Indian community.
