Ukraine attacks Moscow, but Russia ‘thwarts’ it as drone warfare continues

As Kiev continues its counteroffensive, Russia claimed to have stopped Ukrainian drone strikes on Moscow and the surrounding area on Sunday. This was the second such occurrence in two days. Throughout the war, both sides have reported frequent drone invasions, with attacks on Russian territory growing more frequent.

“At around 4:00 am (0100 GMT), an attempt by the Kyiv regime to carry out a terrorist attack by drone on infrastructure in Moscow and the Moscow region was thwarted,” the Russian defense ministry said in a statement.

The drone, which was headed towards Moscow, was destroyed by “electronic warfare” and lost control before crashing into an empty space, the ministry stated, without mentioning any casualties or property damage.

Sergei Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow, congratulated the Russian military for their efforts on the Telegram messaging service.

According to the RIA Novosti news agency, flights to the Domodedovo and Vnukovo international airports in Russia were “temporarily limited” at night before returning to normal.

Five persons were wounded when a Ukrainian drone strike also damaged a train station in the western Russian city of Kursk, the local governor said early on Sunday.

Two Ukrainian drones were intercepted by Russian air defense in Rostov’s southern district, which borders Ukraine, according to the governor.

Following a Russian missile assault on the Ukrainian city of Chernihiv that left seven people dead and almost 150 injured, there have been recent reports of a drone attack on Moscow.

“Respond to Russia for this terrorist attack — a tangible answer,” promised President Volodymyr Zelensky.
