The US-Indian Partnership Will ‘Go to the Moon’ Like Chandrayaan, and Might Even Beyond: Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has commended the trajectory of the burgeoning friendship between India and the United States during the recent state visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The minister said that there is one clear message that India-US relations are at an all-time high when speaking with the Indian Community in Washington.

“In many ways, this has been an extraordinary time for India. It’s been amazing and extremely different from what we usually do in terms of dealing with the US. During his week-long visit to the US, the minister stated, “You all witnessed that when the prime minister (Narendra Modi) arrived (in May). Our relationship is at an all-time high, but as they say in America, you ain’t seen nothing yet, is the one message that is crystal obvious today. We’re going to take this connection to a new place and level, he continued.

Jaishankar compared PM Modi’s May trip to that of PMs Rajiv Gandhi (1985) and Manmohan Singh (2005), saying that PM Modi’s trip was “different”. Its optics were unique. What has changed, if you ask me. What has changed is that India and the US used to deal with one another in the past, but now they cooperate, he said.

IN INDIA-US TIES, “JOSH”

Jaishankar lauded Taranjit Singh Sandhu, the Indian ambassador to Washington, during his speech for adding “a great deal of josh” to the two countries’ bilateral relations. The minister of foreign affairs emphasized how the growth of Indian Americans through time has contributed to closer connections between the two nations.

“There were only 3,000 Indian Americans living in the United States in 1949 when Pandit Nehru arrived. By the time (Prime Minister) Indira Gandhi arrived in 1966, there were 30,000; by the time (Prime Minister) Rajiv Gandhi arrived in 1985, there were 3,000; and by the time (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi arrived, there were more than 3 million, and are now approaching 5 million. What’s different now? He responded, “You people are the change. Human connection, according to Minister Jaishankar, is what distinguishes India and the United States as partners.

From September 22 to 30, Jaishankar will be in the United States of America. EAM oversaw the Indian delegation for the High-Level Week at the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) during his trip to New York from September 22 to September 26. A special event called “India-UN for Global South: Delivering for Development” was also held by him.

THE DIFFERENT INDIA

According to the minister of foreign affairs, he now “truly represents a different India.” As you have heard from others, India is capable of a Chandrayaan Mission. India is able to pull off the most stunning G20 and disprove the claims of those who stated it would be impossible to get 20 nations with opposing viewpoints to the negotiating table together, he said.

“There are kind of really excellent reasons for it if there is spring in our stride and confidence in our voice, a sort of squaring of our shoulders. It is the product of 12 years of toil,” he remarked.

When discussing the future of relations between India and the US, Jaishankar remarked, “Today, this relationship has exceeded expectations in every way.” He noted that both nations continue to set higher standards and discover new areas of collaboration. According to Jaishankar, given the geopolitical climate, India and the United States have come to see one another as highly “desirable and optimal partners.”

“Please keep giving this partnership the support it needs, the support it deserves, the support it expects,” the minister ended in an address to the Indian diaspora. “I can promise you that this relationship (India-US) like Chandrayaan, will go to the moon, maybe even beyond.”
