2.5L migrating voters from North Karnataka would be contacted by the EC

The State Election Commission has inquired about the quantity of voters who left North Karnataka (NK)’s fourteen districts throughout the previous two months. The yearly exodus of rural residents usually happens in April, but this year it started in February because of the state’s drought in some districts.

Approximately 2,52,630 eligible voters from the NK area have moved elsewhere in pursuit of employment, according to estimates from the Election Commission. To boost the proportion of voters, efforts will be undertaken to get in touch with them and set up buses for them during elections.

“CEOs have inquired about the number of eligible voters who have moved out of their homes. These executives are now chairpersons of the district’s SVEEP committees (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Programme). Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have already gathered information, and an official said, “Once the numbers are in our possession, we will attempt to get in touch with them and encourage them to cast a ballot on May 7.

The names of the dead will be removed from the voter list by the BLOs in addition to listing the migrating voters. We’ll be making revisions and adding more work throughout the coming weeks. The BLOs are contacting the close relatives of migrating voters to inquire about their location and how to get in touch with them.

Political parties often plan events, busses, and presents for migrant voters throughout the state and nation. For example, just before elections, a political party in Goa hosted an extravagant celebration for migrants from North Karnataka. The EC and local government will set up buses to transport voters back this time, the spokesman said.

Contacting every employee is a difficult task for the administration, however. Through a variety of channels, the Commission will promote voting awareness campaigns. For example, Koppal district has almost 45,000 voters, while Ballari district has around 15,000 listed migrant voters. We are compiling the numbers of the Gadag, Raichur, and Kalaburagi. BLOs will go to tandas, or hamlets, when summer migration is at its peak. Villages and other locations will have street performances and skits, the source said.
