3 are at large and 5 are being detained from Pilibhit for the murder of Jammu mobster Rajesh Dogra

Five of the eight suspects—including two corrupt J&K Police officers—have been taken into custody in connection with the March 4 daylight shooting of Jammu-based criminal Rajesh Dogra, close to a shopping center in Sector 67.

The accused, who were named as Sham Lal of Udhampur, Sandeep Singh of Fatehgarh, Satvir Singh of Pilibhit, Harpreet Singh of Meerut, and Anil Singh (the mastermind) of Samba, were shown before the court and placed under police detention till March 14.

Manjit Singh, a Jind native living in Zirakpur, and gunmen Rimpy and Sandeep, also known as Raja, from Jammu, have fled.

Anil Singh, the accused mastermind of the shooting event, was a discharged Jammu police officer, according to the police, while Sham Lal was placed under suspension.

From them, the police have retrieved one gun, two revolvers, three handguns, and 71 live bullets.

Four expensive cars that were utilized in the crime have also been impounded: two are registered in J&K, one in Chandigarh, and one in Nurpur (HP). Allegedly, all of these cars had fictitious addresses on their registrations.

The tragedy resulted from the rivalry between the Billu and Bakra gangs, two Jammu-based gangs who had been attempting to kill each other since 2006 in order to take control.

Anil, the leader of the Billu gang, is accused of organizing and carrying out the March 4 murder of 41-year-old Rajesh Dogra in Mohali. Dogra was the Bakra gang’s leader. He had just been released from prison following a 12-year sentence.

According to the team looking into the matter, almost Rs 1 crore was spent on setting up the cars, weapons, and logistics for the murder. An amount of Rs 35 lakh has been linked to many bank accounts associated with Sandeep, the deceased’s assistant who provided the attackers with information on the target’s whereabouts. Shooters from UP, Haryana, and Jammu were brought in to ensure that this time’s plan would work well.

The two gangs are thought by the authorities to be engaged in extortion in the Jammu region. This was the attackers’ second attempt at killing Dogra. In Jammu, the first one collapsed in 2015.

“The dead had arrived at a motel in Kharar with his two assistants while traveling to Ayodhya. In order to give the attackers enough time to get here and carry out the murder, Rajan forced Dogra remain put for two days prior to meeting him on March 4 afternoon. The suspects had convened in Mohali the day before and carried out a reconnaissance.

Rajan and his attackers ran away after the killing, and he is still at large. The attackers left their three cars behind right away in the Mohali region and ran to Shahgarh in Pilibhit, where they were apprehended.

While some of the firearms used in the crime were modified, others were legal weapons. Three people are missing, one of them is from Chandigarh, according to Mohali SSP Sandeep Garg.

Three teams had been established, according to DSP (Special Branch) Gursher Singh Sandhu and SP (Investigation) Jyoti Yadav, to apprehend the fugitives. The search has reached 3,000 kilometers over the borders of Jammu, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Nepal, and it is ongoing.

Two of Dogra’s assistants, one of which is Rajeev Sharma, also known as Bunty, who traveled with him from Jammu, are reportedly being investigated by the police.

Dogra was slain in the vicinity of the Mohali mall around 12:22 p.m. Nineteen shells were found at the location.
