A 5.4-magnitude earthquake strikes Eastern J&K, and parts of North India, including Delhi-NCR, feel tremors

On Tuesday afternoon, the Doda area in eastern Jammu and Kashmir was struck by an earthquake with a value of 5.4 on the Richter scale. All of northern India experienced tremors, including Delhi and its surrounding regions.

The earthquake occurred at 1:33 PM, the National Centre for Seismology reports, and it was 6 km deep.

The earthquakes may have been felt in Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Punjab, and surrounding regions, according to Dr. OP Mishra, director of NCS. He said that there may be smaller aftershocks than the first earthquake.

People fled their homes and places of employment in a panic. After the earthquake, students at a secondary school in Doda, Jammu & Kashmir, were also evacuated. An official who spoke to PTI stated that it is standard procedure and that teachers and staff are also advised to avoid spreading fear by escorting kids to safer areas as the tremors stop.

“The earthquake frightened students. Shop patrons hurried out. It spooked me. ANI news agency reported a native from Srinagar as stating, “This was more violent than the earthquakes last week.

No injuries or property damage were immediately reported.
