According to a report, child trafficking cases rose after COVID in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh

According to a study issued on Sunday by Games24x7 and the Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation (KSCF), the majority of child trafficking cases during the previous six years took place in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

The study “Child Trafficking in India: Insights from Situational Data Analysis and the Need for Tech-driven Intervention Strategies” was issued on July 31 in honor of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.

Over the course of six years, from 2016 to 2022, the KSCF rescued a total of 13,549 kids, according to the records.

According to the data, Jaipur was the location with the largest number of children saved, 1,115, or 9% of all the children saved nationwide. Additionally, the state government’s efforts to totally end child labor are mentioned in the report.

North Delhi, which accounts for 5.24 percent of all rescues, and Northwest Delhi, which accounts for 5.13 percent of all child rescues, are the next two districts in Delhi with the largest number of rescues. The capital’s top 10 districts list includes five of its districts.

The average number of trafficked minors has significantly increased in Rajasthan, the research claims. There were 99 children in the post-Covid years of 2021–2022, up from 48 in the pre–Covid years of 2016–20. According to the survey, there was a large rise in the numbers between before and after the epidemic, confirming “the detrimental impact the pandemic had on the trafficking situation in the country.”

Compared to other states, Uttar Pradesh has the most children who are trafficked each year. In the pre-Covid period (2016–2019), there were on average 267 incidents of child trafficking; in the post-Covid phase (2021–2022), there were 1,214 cases annually, a rise of more than 35%. There were 2,055 reports of child trafficking in the state only in 2021. The top three states from which the most children were trafficked on average each year were Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh, in that order. Uttar Pradesh had the largest number of instances.

The number of child trafficking cases in Karnataka increased significantly following the Covid epidemic, increasing by 18 times from six instances per year before to 110 cases per year after. According to the research, Kerala hasn’t shown even one incidence as a source state after Covid.
