Andhra: At the TDP Chief’s rally, vehicles were set on fire and stones were thrown; police used tear gas

On Friday, violent riots in Andhra Pradesh wounded numerous police officers as well as TDP and YSRCP supporters. During a rally for Telugu Desam Party leader N Chandrababu Naidu, stones were thrown and cars were set on fire.

According to the police, the demonstration in Mulakalacheruvu in the Annamayya district wounded at least 20 police officers who had been dispatched to provide security.

According to Chittoor district superintendent of police Y Rishant Reddy, “the incident of fierce stone pelting was reported on the way to Punganur where over 20 police personnel were attacked, including the DSP.”

WHAT SET THIS OFF?

This reportedly began occurring when Naidu referred to Thamballapalle MLA Peddireddi Dwarakanatha Reddy as “Ravan” while speaking at a rally.

The supporters of the governing party obstructed Naidu’s path to Angallu in Chittoor as revenge for his comment. Soon after, TDP members started throwing stones at opposing supporters, inflicting injuries on a number of them.

TEARGAS AND LATHI CHARGE TO DISPERSE PEOPLE

Police used lathi charges to start separating the throng as the situation quickly descended into a riot-like state.

At Naidu’s upcoming rally in Punganur, police barriers and a roadshow detour through a bypass route were put in place.

The TDP cadres, on the other hand, were waiting for the demonstration on this route and are accused of attacking the police and setting a bus and a vajra on fire. According to PTI, police had to use tear gas to disperse them.

NAIDU DENIES THE ASSAULTS

Naidu has denounced the reported assaults on TDP activists by YSRCP leaders.

“Only if such people are jailed can the state be at peace. We will confront you with numerous sticks if you come with a stick, Naidu said.

When some YSRCP members waved black flags during the meeting, Naidu told them that no force on earth could harm him.

However, several YSRCP supporters reportedly attempted to assault individuals present there and injured them while the TDP leader was moving near Angallu village. Naidu then threatened the leaders of the governing party with dire repercussions if the violence persisted.

In order to draw attention to the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy administration’s inability to complete irrigation projects that were begun under his administration, Naidu is on a “Yudha Bheri” tour.
