Arrested for the train fire that killed nine people, including pilgrims, were caterers

Police have detained five caterers following a horrific railway carriage fire that resulted in injuries, including the death of nine people. On August 26, the terrible tragedy happened at the Madurai train station. The victims had started their journey to Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu from Lucknow a week earlier. They were a member of a private party bus that a tour operator had organized. The vehicle had 64 people in all, including pilgrims, the tour director, and the five now detained food staff.

The arrested employees, who are from Uttar Pradesh, were traveling with a group of pilgrims who were also from that state. The Government Railway Police questioned them for a long time before presenting them before the court. They were then remanded in detention until September 11 by a judge.

Several provisions of the Indian Penal Code, including IPC section 304 Part-II for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and IPC section 285 for carelessness, are being utilized to prosecute the accused. As a result of their illegal storage and use of a cooking gas cylinder inside the cabin, they have also been prosecuted under Section 164 of The Railways Act for introducing hazardous items into the train.

Among those detained are a 19-year-old, two guys in their mid-20s, and two others who are 47 and 61 years old.

While the majority of survivors have gone back to their homes in Uttar Pradesh, one wounded pilgrim is still receiving treatment there.

A M Chowdhary, Commissioner of Railway Safety (Southern Circle), is in charge of a thorough inquiry into the occurrence. expected to be finished in a month.
