Chhattisgarh: How to Report MCC Violations; Over 4 Lakh Posters Face EC Action for Violating Poll Code

Before the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, the Election Commission has stepped up its efforts to stop code of conduct violations in Chhattisgarh. On interstate boundaries, checkpoints are erected to monitor traffic, which is also observed by CCTV cameras. According to reports, the Commission seized goods, money, and other things valued at more than Rs 30 crore between April 16 and April 1 in connection with a “poll code breach.”

There have been 217 complaints of code of conduct breaches filed with Chhattisgarh so far. The C-Vigil app was used to file these complaints. On 149 complaints, the Election Commission has taken action. In the meantime, the Commission has taken down more than 4 lakh posters and banners. Anyone may file a complaint about a breach of the code of conduct via the C-Vigil app.

The Congress party filed a complaint against Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Reena Babasaheb Kangale, claiming that the home minister of Chhattisgarh had broken the Model Code of Conduct. They wanted the minister removed and legal action taken against the police for not intervening when BJP members tried to break into an opposition leader’s house.

The Congress party has filed a complaint with the CEO against Vijay Sharma, the home minister and deputy chief minister, on the grounds that he violated the Model Code of Conduct.

In a letter, the party said that the code is in effect across the nation and that the attempt by BJP activists to break into the residence of opposition leader Dr. Charandas Mahant was a grave infraction. The Congress condemned the Chhattisgarh police for their inactivity during the tragedy and called attention to the home minister’s constitutional duty to intervene.

The party believed that this was a flagrant violation of both the minister’s authority and the Model Code of Conduct. The Congress insisted that Sharma be fired right away and that he be subject to legal action.
