Civil engineer detained by Delhi Police for pretending to be an associate of Amit Shah

According to police, an unemployed civil engineer tried to get himself hired as a senior official for the Ganga Expressway project by pretending to be an OSD to the Union Minister of Home Affairs before being detained, they said on Sunday.

They said that 48-year-old Robin Upadhyay, a native of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, claimed to have worked for many global corporations for more than 25 years.

Upadhyay was allegedly vying with the subterfuge for the position of Vice President/Project Coordinator for the Expressway project.

After complaining to the New Delhi Cyber Police Station that he had received an email on his official id from a “fake” email address from someone claiming to be one Rajeev Kumar, an Officer-on-Special-Duty to the Union Home Minister, the situation came to light.

Sharma said in his complaint that he received a message from someone claiming to have received orders to have Robin Upadhyay appointed as Senior Associate Vice President-cum-project coordinator for the Ganga Expressway Project.

The email address [email protected] was fraudulent and created with the intention of misleading individuals, according to the police investigation.

“Our team narrowed down the primary suspect Robin Upadhyay based on technological surveillance, and based on technical investigation, it was discovered that the email was produced six to seven days ago and was registered in Upadhyay’s name.

According to initial questioning, the suspect was later located and held from his house in Meerut on Saturday evening before being arrested in connection with the crime, according to Hemant Tiwari, additional deputy commissioner of police (New Delhi).

As a civil engineer with extensive expertise in civil construction projects, Upadhyay admitted during questioning that he had considered obtaining a false reference to get a job, according to Tiwari.

He thus looked up current highway projects and their status. Then he impersonated Rajeev Kumar, OSD in an email to the Union Minister of Home Affairs.

The CV he sent demonstrated his qualifications for the position, according to Tiwari.
