Congreeks criticize Kejriwal’s apprehension

The opposition has responded vehemently to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s recent incarceration in a politically contentious environment.

Even though they had previously disagreed with Kejriwal, former AAP leaders Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan have suddenly come together in support of him, calling his detention an obvious insult to democracy.

Yadav called the arrest a farce of democracy itself and denounced it as unfair. He underlined the need of following the law and conducting a thorough inquiry, emphasizing that making arrests on election eve compromises democracy itself. Bhushan reiterated Yadav’s remarks, pointing out that there isn’t any hard proof against Kejriwal and criticizing the timing of the arrest.

Senior Congressman Jairam Ramesh said that the BJP has a habit of intimidating and coercing opposition lawmakers, framing the arrest in the context of a larger attack. The leader of the TMC, Mamata Banerjee, promised to oppose such capricious measures via democratic methods. Akhilesh Yadav, the president of the Samajwadi Party, too criticized the detention, calling it an effort to silence criticism and bury the truth. Brinda Karat denounced Kejriwal’s apprehension, describing it as a politically driven action meant to silence critics.
