Dharmapuri administration advocated renovation and reopening of Thippampatti bus stop

After it was built in 2017, the Thippampatti bus stop has sat empty. Karimangalam locals have pushed the Dharmapuri district government to refurbish and reopen the stop.

Along the Dharmapuri-Chennai route, which connects Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Harur, and other districts, the Thippampatti bus terminal was built. In order to increase revenue for the Bannikulam Panchayat, it was built in 2017 for a total of Rs 1.18 crore and has over 27 stores. But since it opened, neither the stores nor the bus stop have been used, and as a result, they are in poor shape.
R Murugan, a resident of Kambainallur, said to TNIE, “The Thippampatti bus terminal has been closed for more than six years. We still clearly recall that the bus stop was only open for one day after it was inaugurated, and that after that, not a single bus could be seen pulling into the stand. Additionally, the businesses were completely occupied by people. The bus station was built at a cost of more than Rs 1.18 crore, however it was never utilized. We think the money that was spent on the bus stop was a waste. We don’t think anybody will occupy any of the establishments there.

One of the primary reasons this bus terminal is a failure, according to local merchant R Sumathi, is that busses do not enter. Rather, they halt on the roadways, get on the passenger’s back, and drive off. Generally, a certain amount of foot traffic in the region is required for individuals to hold businesses. Passengers do not enter the bus stand here. As a result, nobody wants to do business here. In the abandoned bus stop, there are now very few businesses operating.

According to P Mariappan of Bannikulam, “Neglect has caused damage to the bus stand’s benches, platforms, and restrooms.” These days, only weekly markets are held at the bus station. One of the main causes of this bus stand’s unuse is poor planning. We’re hoping that authorities will try to get the bus stand back up and running. The Morappur Block Development Office personnel were unreachable when TNIE tried to get in touch with them. “Right now, some works are being undertaken here to improve the infrastructure of the bus stand,” said revenue department officials in response to questions about the situation. In reference to the stores, no bids have been accepted.
