Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi, an AAP former MP, has joined the Congress and might get a Patiala ticket

Dharamvira Gandhi, a former MP from Patiala, joined the Congress on Monday. At the AICC headquarters here, he was greeted by top party leaders.

Dr. Gandhi is expected to run as the party’s nominee for the Patiala seat. Dr. Gandhi joined the Congress before the Lok Sabha election. Dr. Gandhi, a cardiologist, defeated Congresswoman Preneet Kaur to win the 2014 Lok Sabha election as an AAP candidate.

In 2016, Dr. Gandhi left the AAP to start his own party, the Nawan Punjab Party. On Monday, he combined the party with the Congress. Dr. Gandhi’s joining event was attended by Punjab Congress chairman Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Punjab Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera, Punjab AICC in-charge Devendra Yadav, and CLP leader Pratap Bajwa.

According to Bajwa, the Congress would gain from having him in the group. Warring argued that Dr. Gandhi’s admission to the party was a positive step.

Dr. Gandhi claimed to have a strong desire to serve people and left-wing leanings. With this in mind, he joined the AAP, but he quickly became disillusioned with the party’s “high command culture” and quit. “I joined the Congress because of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, which promoted love,” the man said.
