EC is serving as yet another BJP tool, according to Delhi MP Atishi

NEW DELHI: AAP minister Atishi lashed out at the Election Commission of India on Sunday, claiming that the commission had broken no regulations in requesting the party to change their campaign song. She said that this was perhaps the first time in Indian history that a party’s election campaign song has been outlawed, accusing EC of being “another political weapon of the BJP.”

Atishi, a minister in Delhi, claims that ED lied in court about Arvind Kejriwal’s insulin needs.

When the BJP “violates the model code of conduct on a regular basis,” Atishi said that the EC was “inaction.”. She said that while the EC took issue with the song’s reference to fictitious arrests, it did nothing to stop opposition assaults or to replace investigative agency chiefs in the run-up to elections.

“During elections, you (EC) would not replace the director of the CBI, the director of ED, or the director of IT; you would take no action to halt the assault on the opposition. However, the EC objects if someone claims throughout their campaign that fictitious arrests are occurring, according to Atishi.

Atishi pointed out that while the AAP’s campaign song made no explicit reference to the BJP, the EC thought that discussing tyranny was a jab at the ruling party in the Central government. She said that this showed the EC thought the BJP was imposing a “dictatorial rule” on the nation.

The AAP official insisted that the campaign song featured “factual videos and incidents,” including the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, the police’s purported misconduct with Manish Sisodia in Rouse Avenue Court, and the apprehension of AAP volunteers during demonstrations, and that it did not contravene the model code of conduct.

Atishi questioned the EC’s motives, inquiring as to whether the poll body intended to conceal the misbehavior of the police or stifle the truth or the BJP’s alleged political abuse of investigative agencies.
