ED attack: Three people are detained by the CBI, including Shahjahan’s brother

Three persons were detained by the CBI on Saturday, including the brother of TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh, who was suspended, for allegedly taking part in the assault on an Enforcement Directorate team in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, on January 5, according to authorities.

On Sunday, a local court will hear the presentation of Sheikh Alomgir, the brother of Shahjahan Sheikh, Mafujar Molla, the head of the TMC’s student wing in Sandeshkhali, and a local named Sirajul Molla.

During their interrogation, the CIA detained Sheikh’s brother and two other people. On the Calcutta High Court’s orders, the West Bengal Police filed three FIRs, which the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over.

They were detained by the CBI today, according to the authorities, after a thorough investigation and in accordance with technological evidence gathered.

With these apprehensions, the CBI now has 14 persons under custody in this matter.

According to the agency, these individuals are suspected of being involved in the January 5 assault on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers and of inciting a mob to attack the team during their search of Sheikh’s Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, premises.

After fleeing for 55 days, Sheikh was apprehended on February 29th, after violent demonstrations organized by women who claimed to have seen sexual abuses and land grabs. Following a mob onslaught on the ED team investigating his home over allegations of ration distribution fraud, he vanished from sight.

The investigation into the accusations against him was taken up by the state CID.
