Fadnavis greets Modi and says it’s a historic day for India

Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, praised the Supreme Court’s decision on Article 370 on Monday, referring to it as a momentous day for the nation.

The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the Union government was correct to repeal Article 370, which gave the former state of Jammu and Kashmir unique status. The court also ordered that preparations be made to hold elections for the Union Territory Assembly by September 30 of the following year.

The Supreme Court also ordered that Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood be restored as soon as possible.

“Today is a very important day in the history of the country,” Fadnavis said while addressing media on the grounds of Vidhan Bhavan. In a sense, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intention to repeal Article 370 has been officially sanctioned by the Supreme Court today. The Supreme Court’s ruling is a win for both J-K and the country’s citizens.

According to Fadnavis, terrorism has decreased in Jammu and Kashmir since Article 370 was repealed, and significant progress is occurring there.

The top leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party said that the verdict has opened the door for “Eksangh Bharat” (United and Together India).

When asked whether Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) would return to India, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray said that this is what all Indians want.

We are individuals who support Akhand Bharat. Modi has accomplished seemingly unachievable feats. He said, “I think we should wait until the right moment.

“We also hope POK (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir) is merged into Kashmir so that elections are held in greater Kashmir which is an inseparable part of our country,” Thackeray had said earlier in the day while speaking to media here.

The question of whether PM Modi would “guarantee that Kashmiri Pandits will return to their home state safely” was another one Thackeray posed.

Retaliating, Fadnavis said that Thackeray lacked the authority to discuss the matter.

According to Fadnavis, the late Bal Thackeray, the founder of the Shiv Sena, had long demanded that Article 370 be removed, and PM Modi had complied.

“Yet, the (undivided) Shiv Sena took a different stance in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha during PM Modi’s tenure. Therefore, Fadnavis said, “He (Uddhav Thackeray) does not have the right to speak about it.”

When asked whether others facing similar accusations will similarly get the same treatment as NCP leader Nawab Malik, who was imprisoned and is now out on bail due to health issues, Fadnavis responded in the same way.

In a letter to Ajit Pawar, the deputy chief minister, Fadnavis said that the BJP was hesitant to accept Malik into the governing coalition.

Opposition parties have, however, questioned Fadnavis about why the BJP did not take issue with Praful Patel, an NCP member from the Ajit Pawar group who is also the subject of similar accusations.

When asked to respond to Thackeray’s claim that industrialist Gautam Adani should not hold the transferable development right (TDR) for the Dharavi redevelopment project, Fadnavis noted that the MVA government had canceled a previous project tender even though Adani had not been the successful bidder.

In a jab at the outgoing chief minister, Fadnavis said that Thackeray has a policy of opposing development projects.
