In Yamunanagar district, 412 cars were seized for engaging in illicit mining

As part of its ongoing campaign against illicit mining, the Mines and Geology Department has confiscated 412 trucks over the course of the last 11 months for transporting minerals unlawfully in the Yamunanagar region.

The owners of the impounded automobiles have also paid a fee of Rs 1,19,45,500 to the department. Between April 1, 2023, and February 29, 2024, the department seized vehicles and received 32 First Information Reports (FIRs) on illicit mining activities in the area.

Information indicates that between April 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023, the mining department reportedly impounded 336 cars for allegedly transporting mining resources unlawfully. During this time, the department also collected a fine of Rs 1,83,18,000 from the infringers.

In addition, 41 FIRs were filed with the department against individuals engaged in illicit mining.

“We are pursuing severe measures against individuals discovered engaging in illicit mining operations.” Omdutt Sharma, the district mining officer for Yamunanagar, said, “Our field workers is maintaining a strict vigil in the district’s mining areas.”

According to information, the District Level Task Force Committee (DLTFC), presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner Ayush Sinha, met on February 28 and discussed the action taken report (which included information about seized vehicles, fines recovered from seized vehicles, and FIRs filed in connection with illegal mining) that was prepared by the Mining Department.

In addition to talking about the current state of mining (action taken report), the DLTFC meeting also covered the topic of seizing and auctioning off vehicles used for illicit mining and transportation.

During the meeting, the mining department officials were also requested to conduct routine inspections in order to put an end to illicit mining in the district’s villages of Asgarpur, Galauri, Pammuwala, Bhattuwala, Ranjitpur, Nagli-32, Jaitpur, Mohiinpur, Mandewala, Kohliwala, Belgarh, Kanyawala, Lakkar, and Pobari.

In order to prevent anybody from engaging in illicit mining activities, the ADC also gave instructions to routinely inspect the mineral stock of the stone crushers and screening units.
