Kerala Lok Sabha Election 2024: Can Congress scion Rahul Gandhi be deposed in Wayanad by BJP and CPI?

Wayanad Lok Sabha Constituency is one of Kerala’s 20 Lok Sabha Constituencies for the 2024 Lok Sabha Election. Since its establishment, the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat has been a Congress stronghold. The constituency was won by the party for three consecutive elections in 2009, 2014, and the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Wayanad was created ahead of the general elections in 2009.

Rahul Gandhi, the former president of the Congress, won resoundingly in the 2019 Lok Sabha election from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. With a voting participation of more than eighty percent, the Gandhi scion easily beat P.P. Suneer, the CPI candidate, winning by a staggering margin of 4,31,770 votes.

Gandhi regained the Congress’s hegemony in Wayanad, garnering 7,06,367 votes against Suneer’s 2,74,597.

Rahul Gandhi, the current Member of Parliament, had his membership in Parliament revoked on March 23, 2023, as a result of his conviction and punishment by a Surat municipal court. The Supreme Court reinstated him as a member of parliament on August 4, 2023.

Phase 2 of the Lok Sabha polls will see elections for the Wayanad seat on April 26, 2024. Results will be announced on June 4 after the vote count.

About the Lok Sabha Constituency of Wayanad
The opposition INDIA alliance includes the Communist Party of India (CPI), which is in power in Kerala. However, there is no seat-sharing agreement between the allies; therefore, they will compete against one another in the state in the Kerala Lok Sabha Election of 2024.

This might ultimately work to the advantage of the opposing BJP, which is hoping to gain ground in southern India in the next elections. However, based on preliminary vote results, Rahul Gandhi seems to be certain to hold onto the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, even though the CPI and BJP will probably put up a fierce fight.

Phase 2 of the seven-phased Lok Sabha Elections 2024 will take place on April 26 and include elections for all 20 parliamentary seats in Kerala.
