Lok Sabha polls: Political hoardings are removed by the Abohar municipal council

The government moved quickly to implement the Model Code of Conduct here, as soon as the Election Commission of India announced the dates of the Lok Sabha elections.

The municipal corporation initiated a campaign to remove all political leaders’ flex boards, under the guidance of Abohar Sub Divisional Magistrate.

According to MC Chief Sanitary Inspector Jaswinder Singh, the campaign to remove flex boards with politicians’ images and promotional messages from the city’s key thoroughfares began today, and all of these boards would be taken down shortly. He said that without the SDM’s consent, no political party would be able to erect a flex board. Action will be taken if someone erects a board of such kind.

It’s interesting to note that even after the private advertisers paid the required fee to the relevant authorities, the supporters of a few Aam Aadmi Party activists who were appointed this week to positions within the ruling party’s various wings or on official posts removed dozens of commercial flex boards and put up “welcome boards” on the approved sites.
