MEA calls China’s renaming of Arunachal territories ridiculous

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) voiced its opposition, calling such actions “senseless,” a day after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar chastised China for renaming 30 new places along the LAC in Arunachal Pradesh.

A few days after India registered a diplomatic protest over Beijing’s resistance to PM Narendra Modi virtually inaugurating a tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, the list was released by the state media.

The fourth list of 30 new names for Arunachal Pradesh was issued by the Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs last week. According to the MEA, this has no significant impact since the state “was, is, and will always be an integral part of India.”

China has published a list of Arunachal Pradesh’s “standardized” geographical names, which it refers to as Zangnan, according to an article published on Sunday by the state-run Global Times.

“Will your house become mine if I change its name today?” Jaishankar had asked. India’s Arunachal Pradesh was, is, and always will be a state. It has no impact to changing names.

He had also said, “Our Army is deployed at the Line of Actual Control.”

Bejing renamed thirty locations, including a piece of land, twelve residential areas, four rivers, a lake, a mountain pass, and twelve mountains. The Chinese government released a high-resolution map of the regions along with specific latitude and longitude in addition to the list of names.

When China announced the first list of “standardized” names for six Arunachal Pradesh locales in 2017, it set off a new plot about the state. A further renaming procedure of fifteen locations took happen in 2021. Eleven locations saw name changes in 2023.
