NIA officers are scheduled to protest the modesty of the TMC leader’s wife in Bhupatinagar, West Bengal

The wife of TMC politician Monobrata Jana, who was detained, filed a police report on Sunday accusing NIA officers of attempting to offend her modesty by forcing their way into her Bhupatinagar home under the guise of opening an investigation.

Two major conspirators in a 2022 bombing case in West Bengal’s Purba Medinpur district that resulted in the deaths of three people, Balai Charan Maity and Manobrata Jana, were taken into custody by the National Investigation Agency on Saturday.

According to him, Moni Jana, Jana’s wife, complained to the Bhupatinagar police station, claiming that during the early-morning raid on Saturday, NIA officials also damaged property in her home.

“We have filed a formal report after learning about a woman’s alleged assault by NIA officials. We’re investigating the allegation,” the policeman said to PTI.

The police official stated that the complaint was linked to IPC Section 354, which prohibits assaulting any lady with the purpose to violating her modesty.

When an NIA team attempted to apprehend two primary suspects in the Purba Medinipur district bomb case on Saturday, it was reportedly ambushed by a crowd. This led to a political spat in which Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the investigators of abusing the people.

The incident at Bhupatinagar resulted in injuries to one of the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) personnel as well as damage to a vehicle.

He continued, saying that as of now, no one has been taken into custody in relation to the assault on the NIA personnel who reported the incident to the Bhupatinagar police station.

He said, “The matter is being investigated.”

The attack on the NIA team brought back memories of January 5, when a group of people attacked an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas district, while they were searching TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh’s home in relation to purported anomalies in the public distribution system.
