No lockdown for the G-20 Summit in Delhi; here’s how to get to the airport and train stations

The G20 Summit is set to take place this weekend at the recently built Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan, located in the nation’s capital. The Delhi Police has released a thorough traffic warning to ensure that commuters can get to and from their destinations without incident.

A number of safety precautions have been put in place to ensure the summit’s safety and security. All schools, government and business establishments, including banks, will be closed throughout the city from September 8 to September 10. The whole New Delhi district will be referred to as “Controlled Zone-I” during this period, while the portion bounded by the Ring Road (Mahatma Gandhi Marg) would be referred to as “Regulated Zone.”

These limitations will be in place from Friday at 5 a.m. until Sunday at midnight. It’s crucial to remember that these traffic limitations may cause some delays for travellers heading to the airport as well as the New Delhi and Old Delhi train stations. The public has been informed by the Delhi Police that access to these locations would still be available.

How much will this summit impact the traffic in Delhi?

In and around New Delhi, there will be unique traffic restrictions in effect from September 7 to September 11, 2023. While enforcing some rules, the Delhi traffic police has worked to ensure that Metro services run smoothly and that a variety of public transportation choices are available.

Except for National Highway 48 (NH-48), normal traffic flow would not be impacted outside of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) region. All around Delhi, including New Delhi, pharmacies, supermarkets, milk stands, and produce stands will continue to operate.

Within the Controlled Zone, both government and private cars may be used by workers of the government, the media, physicians, and paramedics. On the Ring Road and the road network that extends beyond the Ring Road in the direction of the city’s boundaries, general traffic, including the commercial vehicles and buses presently present in Delhi, will be permitted.

During the G-20 Summit, passenger service to the airport, railroad stations, and ISBTs will continue to run. However, from 0500 from September 9, 2023, until 2300 on October 8, 2023, no boarding or deboarding will be allowed at the Supreme Court Metro Station. Also permitted admission into Delhi will be interstate buses. According to the traffic advice, all such buses would have finishing places on the Ring Road. City buses will run on the Ring Road and the surrounding road network in the direction of Delhi’s boundaries. These buses are permitted to leave Delhi.

However, the New Delhi Area would not have access to City Bus service. No TSRs or taxis would be permitted to enter or operate in the New Delhi District between 0500 and 2359 on September 9, 2023. Taxis transporting bona genuine residents and visitors with confirmed reservations in hotels in the New Delhi District, however, will be permitted to operate on the district’s road network.
