Not against English, but Indian children should learn their mother tongue in addition to Hindi: Shah

Amit Shah, the union home minister, said on Sunday that he was not opposed to English but that youngsters in India should study both their different mother tongues as well as Hindi, and that the country’s indigenous languages must be preserved.

At the Indian Institute of Teacher Education’s (IITE) convocation event, he was speaking to the graduating students. Shah also exhorted the graduating students to use the richness of information found in the Vedas, Upanishads, and Sanskrit language.

The Union minister said that since India is a nation that cannot resist any sort of information, he was not against English.

All Indian languages must be preserved and improved since they are the foundation of our culture, history, literature, and grammar. We must strengthen our language. Teaching kids in their mother tongues is a key component of the National Education Policy 2020, he stated.

I think kids should study French and German in addition to English, but I also think kids from Gujarat should learn Gujarati and Hindi, kids from Assam should learn Assamese and Hindi, and kids from Tamil should learn Tamil and Hindi. If this occurs, nobody will be able to halt the development of our nation, according to Shah.

As Gujarat’s chief minister, Prime Minister Narendra Modi established the IITE with the goal of fusing eastern and western educational ideals, according to Shah.

One of the four subjects you are taught is Sanskrit.I’d want you to build on the foundational understanding of Sanskrit you’ve learned here. Our Upanishads, Vedas, and Sanskrit are the only places in the world where such a richness of knowledge has been accumulated. After studying them, you won’t have any more problems in life, he said.

He said that the Vedas taught us to gather excellent ideas from anywhere we can, without questioning the source of the information. Without regard to its source, Shah remarked, “We should determine whether the knowledge is beneficial to society, people, the world, and the universe as a whole.”

The Union minister emphasized the need of integrating contemporary elements into our traditional Indian educational philosophy. According to him, there have been many changes in the realms of science and knowledge, and we should be aware of these developments and combine science and knowledge to form a comprehensive educational system. According to him, education entails guiding a youngster in the proper direction. 2,927 pupils in all received diplomas from the school.
