Only Marathas who are socially, academically, and economically backward should be given reservations. Minister for the Union Narayan Rane

Only individuals from the Maratha community who are educationally, socially, and economically deprived should have reservations in employment and education, according to Union minister Narayan Rane on Thursday.

He said that none of the Marathas needed to have Kunbi certificates in order for them to receive the advantages of quota. The Other Backward Classes (OBC) classification grants reservations to Kunbis.

“All the Marathas in the state do not need Kunbi caste certificates. The advantages of reserves should be extended to those in the society who are less advanced socially, economically, and educationally. The ’96 kuli’ Marathas (a clan structure) have not requested reservations, according to Rane, a former chief minister.

According to Rane, who said that Marathas make up 38% of the state’s population, a good census should determine who is socially, economically, and educationally backward.
